Rather Be Plumbing offers Perimeter Drain Replacement and Water Proofing. If water is getting into your basement, let us help you seal it out!
Water proofing your foundation is crucial to prevent damage to the foundation your house. Here's how we drain the water away and keep your foundation dry and structurally sound: We excavate down to the footings of the house's foundation, exposing the walls of the foundation. We then power wash the walls and allow them to dry. Then, the prepared walls are covered with a waterproof membrane and drainage tiles (weeping tiles) are layed out along the perimeter of the footing.
Water in the soil causes hydrostatic pressure to be exerted underneath basement floors and walls. This hydrostatic pressure can force water in through cracks, which can cause major structural damage as well as mold, decay, and other moisture-related problems.
Water in the soil can exacerbate common construction flaws in basements and foundations:
- Improperly cured concrete foundations are sucseptible to cracking from hydrostatic pressure;
- Concrete foundations may have pockets of air where water can push through;
- Clogged drains, combined with a period of heavy rain, can saturate the ground around the basement to the point of flooding;
- Footings that are too narrow or too shallow are liable to shift and crack as the soil around them naturally erodes.
